Speed to Fly I have spend some time crunching some Speed 2 Fly numbers and have come up with the some general conclusions that maybe of interest. 1a. Fly best glide for nil wind to tail wind when lift is below 300up average - outcome: you will achieve 90% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. No increase in sink rate. OR if your more agressive... 1b. Fly 30% Speed 2 Fly (eg if you expect 300up next, then set speed ring to 30% approx 100up) for nil wind to tail wind when lift is below 300up average - oucome: you will achieve 96% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. Increase of between 5% to 16% in your sink rate. 2a. Fly 30% Speed 2 Fly (eg if you expect 600up next, then set speed ring to 30% approx 200up) for nil wind to tail wind when lift is 300up to 700up average - oucome: you will achieve 92% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. Increase of between 22% to 43% in your sink rate. OR if your really conservative... 2b. Fly best glide for nil wind to tail wind when lift is 300up to 700up average - outcome: you will achieve 78% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. No increase in sink rate. 3a. Fly 50% Speed 2 Fly (eg if you expect 100up next, then set speed ring to 50% approx 500up) for nil wind to tail wind when lift is 700up to 1000up average - oucome: you will achieve 96% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. Increase of between 92% to 121% in your sink rate. OR if your more conservative 3b. Fly 30% Speed 2 Fly (eg if you expect 1000up next, then set speed ring to 30% approx 300up) for nil wind to tail wind when lift is 700up to 1000up average - oucome: you will achieve 90% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. Increase of between 50% to 65% in your sink rate. OR if your super conservative. 3c. Fly best glide for nil wind to tail wind when lift is 700up to 1000up average - outcome: you will achieve 72% or better of the Cross Country speed of someone using 100% S2F. No increase in sink rate.
