Task 3
Finally some wind, about 10kts
easterly, but
not much in the way of thermals. Task was called for
Dowerin TP then crosswind to Northam, 105km.
We managed to get by with just one strip all day finally, although it got quite
crossed late in the day as the wind went SSE. Those who left early had weak lift
but drift down the course line, later the thermals got marginally better but the
wind shifted about 40 degrees to the course.
Thermals were pretty weak, most struggled to get past 3500ft and the 3 pilots to
make the turn point barely made any distance on the
crosswind leg. Scurge got furthest (47km)
followed by Kiwi Dave (46km)
and Mole (45.7km).
14 pilots of 22 made it out of the bombout zone, an improvement on the last
couple of days when only 6 got away each day.
Dave Wellington has jumped into the overall lead with 670 points, 2 points ahead
of Mole and 11 points ahead of Steve Ewen in 3rd.
Things are equally close in the teams comp with Dick
Speeds Offspring taking the lead from CMFs by 131 points to 130.
