After 2 blown
out days finally the wind has stopped howling. Goal is
downwind 91.6km to Northam. Thermals went to around
7000 feet with enough wind for high speeds. 8 people made goal several of them
had low saves feet out from below 200 feet on the way. Thunderstorms developed
late in the afternoon but everyone was on the ground in time.
Dave Wellington was fastest in 2 hours and 5 minutes
with an average speed of 44.6kmh. He would have done a lot better if he hadn't
just missed the start circle on his last turn. He left at 13:29 and 47 seconds
and was given the 13;15 start time, so if he left 13 seconds later his time
would have been 15 minutes quicker.
Gordon Marshall came is second followed by Paul Blachford, Scurge, and James
Freeman, who also missed his start gate by 12 seconds, and had to skirt around
the clouds put out be the thunderstorm later in the day. Murray Wood, Jamie
Oorschot and Mole also made goal.
Only 3 pilots failed to make it out of the bombout zone, the unluckiest being
Chris Howman, who damaged his glider in a crosswind launch, and Andrew Sanders
who injured his back before even launching.
The overall scores have been changed somewhat as today was worth 950 points,
nearly 3 times any previous day this year.
Dave Wellington is now in front on 1955
Murray Wood is second with 1777
Paul Blachford has moved up to a close 3rd with 1757
Mole is close too in 4th with 1739
Dick Speed's Offspring have taken a commanding league in the teams at 347 points
Goldfields Dustdevils are up to 2nd with 247 and CMFs continue their decline on
203 points, now just 14 ahead of TDs
We are hoping for one more good task tomorrow to round off the comp, although it
is currently raining pretty hard.
