Once again
conditions were very windy but with a slightly lower gust-factor. This gave the
paragliders an opportunity to launch for the first time this comp. The task was
stretched slightly with goal set as Piawanning, a total distance of 105kms.
Jon Durand joined the field after missing the first day due to the NSW state
titles. Predictably he was first in goal with a stunning time. It wasn't all
smooth-sailing for him though with two sub-five hundred feet saves on the way.
Gary Wright was the fastest WA pilot followed by Dave Wellington and Mark
Thompson. Mark Stokoe managed to find goal this time! Once again it was a very
scratchy day - most pilots barely getting higher than 4000 feet AGL.
Graeme Sharp
had a very close call when he did a 180 degree lockout on tow. He managed to
release and land into the wind after almost cleaning up the entire aerotow team.
Showing true courage he hopped straight back on the horse and flew his personal
best of 33kms!
