Task 3
The wind dropped somewhat much to the relief of the field. It was still blowing from the SE, though there were signs it might swing more to the east as the day wore on. The task committee set a 100km task with a turn point at Konnongorin and goal at Calingiri.
The task turned out to be a tough one despite most of the field getting away. Once again there was an inversion at 4000 feet AGL. Only four pilots got around the turn point with most being blown well north of the course line. Jon Durand got closest to goal beating Gary Wright by just 200m! Mark McCumber was in the air for 6 hours landing to the north of goal, unable to penetrate the cross-headwind on the final leg.
Mark Thompson
relinquished 500 points when he bombed early. Mirek Generowicz had a personal
best flight of 20km in his Airborne Fun. The paragliders had an excellent
day with both Rod and Dave flying about 40kms.
